Public Management and Gender: women experiences in entering and occupying positions in a Brazilian city

Abstract Although there are shared experiences of women's lives, they distinct considering the socio-cultural profile a given location. From this perspective, research gender and management limited in Brazilian context. This article seeks to investigate women entering occupying public positions city. is qualitative exploratory research. Women who work leadership were interviewed. The data analyzed through interpretative analysis developed with support NVivo®11 software. remain underrepresented city compared number men occupy same clear gap. results also highlight discriminatory practices, bias cultural barriers. provides relevant insights into relationship between management, it reinforces literature, since findings added further researches reveal female performance challenges management.
